Tatia Mays-Russell

Chief Financial Officer

In her role as the MLBPA’s Chief Financial Officer, Tatia Mays-Russell reports to the Chief Operating Officer and serves as an integral member of the senior management team. She is responsible for providing the leadership, management, and vision necessary to ensure that the proper financial controls, administrative and reporting procedures, and people systems are in place to ensure the financial strength of the Association and its subsidiaries.


Tatia graduated from Brooklyn (N.Y.) Technical High School before receiving a degree from the Cornell University College of Engineering. She initially aspired to go to medical school before studying material science, with a focus on polymer science. In her first job, as a scientist with GE, she worked within the aerospace, automotive and beauty industries. She did post-graduate work at the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School before working as a management consultant for Deloitte.
 

Tatia made her first foray into the sports world as Senior Director of League Business & Financial Operations for the WNBA during the league’s formative years, before transitioning to the entertainment/media space as a vice president overseeing strategic planning and development, reporting, and financial performance for Scholastic. She later broke new ground as the first Chief Financial Officer for the National Lacrosse League and played a key leadership role with the Metropolitan Transit Authority as the organization’s Deputy Chief, Strategic Initiatives.


When she’s not at work, Tatia enjoys roller skating and running and has competed in multiple half marathons. She has a deep interest in reading about American history, in particular the journey of African Americans, and is active working with and mentoring teens as an advisor for Jack and Jill of America.
