The Major League Baseball Players Trust announced on Monday it is donating $45,000 to The Tyler Skaggs Baseball Foundation on behalf of all players to honor his memory and preserve his legacy of serving families and children in the greater community.
“Players are comforted to know that Tyler’s devotion and commitment to improving the lives of others will live on through this foundation,” Executive Director Tony Clark said. “Tyler was a man who not only understood the responsibilities that come along with being a Major Leaguer, but he readily embraced them with a joyful and giving spirit.”
The mission of The Tyler Skaggs Baseball Foundation is “to inspire leadership, confidence, and teamwork through youth projects and family services” and will focus its energies on mentorship, community outreach, and athletic initiatives that provide encouragement and support to those in need. Skaggs was just 27 when he passed away on July 1.
Players around baseball are supporting each other and the Skaggs family.
“MLB Players are part of a tight family, and when a tragedy like this happens, we all grieve together,” said Angels teammate Andrew Heaney. “This donation is a way for us to honor the legacy of one of our brothers and help the foundation carry on the great work that Tyler Skaggs did in his community.”
“Tyler was incredibly passionate about giving back to his community. This donation is meaningful to all players so that we can play a part in keeping his legacy alive,” said Ryan Braun.
“We lost one of our brothers too soon,” said Patrick Corbin. “We all want his legacy to live on, and this donation will help us achieve that.”
“Ty was a great player, but most importantly was a great human being. He was someone that we all loved and enjoyed being around. A donation like this means so much to everyone and we are thankful we were able to make it on behalf of all players,” said Jack Flaherty.
